99. International Day of Action to Cancel Zapotillo Dam Project, November 10

The following call is issued by the International Rivers.  KN
*     *    *

We urge you to join in solidarity on November 10, 2010 to stop the Zapotillo Dam. On this day, we are asking communities and NGOs to organize actions at their nearest Mexican Embassy to demand the cancellation of this destructive project.

The Zapotillo Dam is being constructed on the Verde River in Mexico's Jalisco state to provide water to the neighboring state of Guanajuato. The project is proceeding without the consent of dam-affected communities. In addition, the appropriate environmental impact, cultural heritage and land use permits have not been granted.

We urge you to join us on November 10 and demand the cancellation of Zapotillo.

If you plan on organizing an action in your country, please email kross@internationalrivers.org,noalzapotillo@gmail.com and salvemostemaca@hotmail.com. If you are located in the United States, please sign our petition which will be posted shortly.
